Superstars and Fancy Cars

In this day and age, what exactly is a role model supposed to be? It used to be someone you could look up to, someone who you trusted, someone whose ideas and decisions you generally agreed with. Nowadays, it seems like a role model is some famous rich person, preferable with lots of expensive belongings and a big house. It doesn't say anything about the quality of the person anymore, just the size of their bank account. So frequently people look up to and admire those who will do anything to get ahead in the world, anything to make a couple bucks. These "role models" make fortunes, live the "wild life," marry and divore and marry and divorce in a continuous cycle, and generally fail to take the rules of life seriously because more than half the time the population of the United States is more lenient on them than on the average citizen anyway. No need to keep morals, no need to follow rules, just an eternal quest for money.
That's not supposed to be what role models are, is it? My gut feeling says "no."
And yet that's what this country is like. If we continue on this road, who knows where we'll go? We don't really know, but my personal guess would be in a generally downward direction.
Which leads to my point. (Yes, I do have one). We have to be role models, we have to be strong enough to stand up for what we believe in, we have to stand strong against the "winds of change" and prove that our way of life can weather the test of time. We have to be strong and stand true to our morals and maybe, just maybe, people will start to pay attention and realize that our country cannot continue on its current path.
We can't survive for long, not unless we wake up and listen and realize that the rest of the world exists. It's not about "me," it's about "us." And we have to live for each other, and the future, instead of squabbling over the scraps of this society, and arguing about who has more of those little green sheets of paper.
