Forgive and Forget

I find it interesting that the same Greek word is used to mean permit, leave, and forgive. The Greeks recognize that there is a link between these three meanings. To forgive someone means to leave the past alone, to permit that person to walk away from their mistake a better person, instead of constantly pulling them back to rub their faces in their failure.
I only hope I can live up to the full potential of the word άφίημι, I only hope that I can forgive, forget, and move on, allowing others to do the same.
It's no fun to contantly run back to the same mistakes over and over and over and over again...
