War and Peace

This might be a controversial topic at present, but I believe it's an important one to think about. What is peace exactly? No matter how we try to find it, we always seem to mess up somewhere along the way, and just make a big mess of war and death and destruction and hatred. How long can we survive like this? How long can we live while aiming for each other's throats?
There has to be a better way. I think if everyone would try to understand one another the world would be a brighter, happier, friendlier place. And then at least we'd avoid the wars based on misunderstanding and lacks of acceptance.
But even then, there are the power-hungry land-grabbing greedy dictators to worry about. If the world was mostly united with a sense of peace and understanding, though, those dictators would not gain the followings they have in the past. For example, if not for World War I Hitler probably would not have gained power. Since Germany lost World War I, however, the German people were upset and disatisfied with the "peace" afterwards, and Hitler seemed to be the best way out.
An end of war doesn't necissarily mean the beginning of peace, especially where events like the Treaty of Versailles after World War I are concerned, but it is a necessary prerequisite. Once war is eliminated, if everyone (and I mean everyone) strives towards peace, then we can make this planet a friendly place again, instead of the slowly boiling planet it has become.
We need to find peace, before it's too late.
If it isn't too late already...
